President Message
The International Police Association is one of the most unique and interesting social organizations in the world. This fraternal organization is dedicated “to unite in service and friendship all active and retired members of the law enforcement service throughout the world.” The IPA strives to enhance the image of the police in its member countries, and to facilitate international cooperation through friendly contacts between police officers of all continents.
It therefore pleases me to notice that the basic ideas of friendship and solidarity among police officers in all countries, as introduced in 1950 by our Founder Arthur Troop, are still very much alive with the IPA family. Our Association has had an incredible development over the past 55 years and that is something that is still going on today. The fact that the positive development has been achieved, not through direct advertising, but through personal contacts between police officers in different countries, proves the strength behind our ideals. It seems that despite all dissension between people and states, there is still a place for friendship and solidarity across the borders.
Friendship is the primary goal of our Association and friendship is something that one can of course prove during the difficult times. Friendship is when someone makes an effort to do something for another unconditionally, taking into consideration the other person’s rights, respecting those rights and therefore not attempting to limit them. If we distance ourselves from our friends out of self-interest, then we have already given up on that friendship.
With there few words I welcome you to the new updated and dynamic website and I assure all our Members that we will continue to update them on all issues concerning the International Police Association.
